Barney and Betty Hill traveled roughly 35 miles but did not remember how they had gone that distance nor had any recollection of anything that occurred over the time frame of the abduction. They felt something had happened to them but did not know what. They arrived home around 5 am and decided not to bring the items into the house that were in the trunk of their car for fear of radiation poisoning.

FURTHER THINKING & RESEARCH: How can the time loss be explained? What would make the couple feel they could not bring their luggage inside the house for fear of radiation poisoning?

After the incident, when they were back home, Betty and Barney, went out to the trunk of their car and noticed circle indentations on the surface of the trunk. They also placed a compass near the vehicle's trunk, which caused the compass to act erratically. We wish we could test this ourselves today, but we are definitely intrigued by this. This correlates with what the Hills stated about the UFO sending a rhythmic series of sound waves thumping against the trunk of their car.

FURTHER THINKING & RESEARCH: What could have caused the indentations on the trunk of the car? What could have caused the compass to react the way it did?

Many years later, on F. Lee Bailey’s show, Lie Detector, on May 23, 1982 - Betty Hill describes the flying saucer and the experience she and her husband went through. She passed the polygraph after being asked about what happened on the night of the abduction.

After an examination, Betty described an interaction she had with one of the aliens aboard the UFO. Betty asked the alien where they came from, and the alien showed her a map of stars that Betty was able to recall and sketch. In the 1970s, astronomer Marjorie Fish discovered similarities between Betty's star map and the star system of Zeta Reticuli.

Betty described the map as having heavy lines where the aliens had trade routes. The dashed lines described places where the aliens had ventured to.
